Description: A 282-acre island in the Snake River, just downstream from
Clarkston. This sunny, dry area is a great destination for boating,
waterskiing, swimming, picnicking, and fishing for bass, catfish,
crappie, perch, steelhead, sturgeon, and trout. The Lewis and Clark
National Historic Trail runs through the park, which was once a Nez
Perce encampment. The interpretive center is named for Chief Alpowai of
the Nez Perce, who was a valued ally for white settlers in the area.
The campground has 66 sites, including 50 with full RV hookups, and 16
walk-in, tent-only sites. Other facilities include horseshoe pits and a
volleyball court.
